Realize God's Vision

Is there a gap between your current financial reality and what you need to move forward in ministry?

“Mind the gap” is a railway term—a warning to passengers to be careful as they step across the space from the platform to the train. But mind the gap is good advice for churches, too. Why? Because churches that don’t address their financial resource gap have trouble doing what God has called them to do. Over time, a scarcity mindset can take hold, and vision stalls as more and more energy is spent just trying to survive.

But churches that close the gap:

  • Launch new ministries to serve their neighbors and the world.
  • Expand facilities to welcome new families and offer more programming.
  • Create missional partnerships with community organizations.
  • Look forward to the future from a mindset of abundance.

My Approach

As a church leader, there’s nothing more frustrating than not having the funding to do what God’s calling you to do. But when you think about trying to address that problem, you feel overwhelmed, you dread the potential pushback from your congregation, and you’re not sure where to turn for help.

Over the last 18 years, I’ve helped more than 120 churches close the gap between their current financial reality and what they need to move forward in ministry.

I felt overwhelmed and under-resourced by the idea of raising money for our first building project. Rusty understood our angst and helped us frame our campaign in bite-size pieces, and each time we followed his leadership, we got the results we needed. Rusty communicates through his actions that he cares about your church and the ministry that is being done. He works diligently to help you resource that ministry and expand your impact in the world.

Jeff McDowell, Founding Pastor
The Harvest United Methodist Church

Our church wanted to build a culture of generosity and to potentially build a new Kids Ministry building. We were excited—but a little overwhelmed. Rusty listened attentively to our needs, and when flooding from Hurricane Harvey shifted our needs, he shifted his counsel and timeline quickly and expertly. Our generosity has increased dramatically, our church has grown healthier through the leadership conversations, and—bonus—our church decided to move forward with building.

Steve Bezner, Senior Pastor
Houston Northwest Church

When we first contacted Rusty, our giving was low, and we felt incompetent. Rusty brought a breadth of experience with others in similar situations, with clear biblical support to his conclusions. We now have the best giving we’ve had in the history of the church.

Paul Hansen
Executive Pastor, Grace Community Church

Before we hired Rusty, we had been through two building campaigns and still had not raised the needed funds. We were exhausted and out of ideas. Rusty asked lots of questions and took the time to get to know us and our church, and then helped us move into God’s plan for us. Our financial goal was $7.5 million over a 24-month period, and we raised $8.4 million. But with Rusty, it isn’t just about money. He’s about God’s people: getting them engaged, challenging them, and watching God work through them.

Jeff Cranston
Lead Pastor, Low Country Community Church

We were feeling challenged by the need to raise funds for a new worship center. Rusty demonstrated that he understood our problem by listening, acknowledging, and articulating solutions. Throughout our initiative, he was accessible, and he offered unrivaled competence and substantive assistance. I’m a veteran of four capital campaigns with three different companies and several multi-million-dollar building projects. Rusty was different from any former consultant I’ve used. He knew his stuff; there was no hesitation and no smoke and mirrors. He regularly contacted us after commitment Sunday and guided us through campaign refreshers. I could pick up the phone right now, and Rusty would expertly, immediately, and willingly advise me.

Jeff Faull
Senior Minister, Mt. Gilead Church
